Big light boxes in Europolis

Glitch Europolis

Best Answer Morten , 24 October 2014 - 17:31

Yeah, we hope to have fixed this issue soon. Sometimes it's kind of difficult to know if people are seeing the same thing as we do, and determining if what some people are seeing are actually bugs or if it's maybe just personal flavor pitching in. At least the way the lens flare is intended to work there are occasional "box" flares, but nothing so major as to render the effect annoying.

We know, however, that some users with Intel and ATI/AMD cards are experiencing a blooming side effect of the lens flare which is not part of the bloom from other objects in the scene. Many of these users have also mentioned a bloom/lens flare effect coming out of some characters' eyes, making them look like they have l4z0r eyes!

This issue we hope to have fixed shortly. :)

Thanks.

From looking at your specs I totally agree that this is a definite bug and not a hardware issue at all, as I'm sure is what you've concluded with as well. :P

Nothing from your specs suggests a bug like this at all, I must say. We also have a machine running with R9 290X card in our office now, and it's not happening on there, so must be something else.. Hmmm..

Anyway, thanks for the report. We'll be sure to look into this issue! :)

As the thread here is 'headed' I figured it was the combo of my CPU.  However, was this tested with my CPU, the i7 4930k?  I even immediately turned off OC'ing as I had thought something had gone terribly wrong at first and my picture posts are in the thread which Ragnar responded to, I believe.

I can find them again.  I screen the heck out of all games I play, all 400+.  Not all are on steam of course. ;)

I mean if we can fix it great. I just would be happy enough with an option, if it cannot be recreated.

This, I don't have to do anything other than take screenshots normally, it's just that constant for me as well. Those bright in my face repeats, they never go away, matters NOT what angle, so our experiences between us all are, not quite the same...

There we go found them...

Sometimes it works lovely, actually. http://steamcommunit...s/?id=331142724

Other times, as was mentioned it might be a bit more extreme because of my setup but, I get shots like these... XD

Unless, a little handheld device on an NPC is supposed to glare and ripple light that much? http://steamcommunit...s/?id=330743942

Pretty distracting, because of the frequency, but the effect done right, (some mild streaks of lighting, and a little lighting ripple) isn't bad.

I'm pretty sure this one is still my fav, but it does bother when listening to dialog, and no direction swivel quite removes the effect with some NPC's in Euro as well as Arcadia.  http://steamcommunit...s/?id=330503433

Must finish with one that nailed it so well.  http://steamcommunit...s/?id=330503405 :)  I'm sure the most extreme can be patched.

I believe it has not been tested on that exact CPU, no.
Many of the photos you linked show the lens-flare effect as they're intended, but some of them are a little over the top than what is expected. We also see some artefacts for some effects with the R9 GPU, but we still haven't seen the same issue as was first linked (http://i.imgur.com/1fq3XuX.jpg).

It's still weird for such a high end rig to experience some of these unintended issues. However, there might be many variables to this specific equation.

We'll try to reproduce this at our office, but right now we don't really have an answer for what may be causing this exactly. :(

I think the thing here is, I meant no disrespect to Ragnar, but those of us who are having it this extreme need to have a tweak or two optional, if it's just how it is. ;)  Hence why I appreciate it being looked into.

My problem with the lens flares is more the way they rapidly flicker on and off the screen. They feel jarring and make me intuitively think I'm seeing a glitch, but it appears that this is the way it's meant to be. A slider to decrease their frequency or turn them off entirely would be welcome, but if it compromises the visual vision RTG has, I understand.

Weaving olden dances

Mingling hands and mingling glances

Till the moon has taken flight;

To and fro we leap

And chase the frothy bubbles,

While the world is full of troubles

And anxious in its sleep.

I think we have a situation where a lot more Beta testing by backers would have been a much better way to go, but neither time nor the budget permitted it.

Unfortunately, with a few very notable exceptions, I think Kickstarter backed games suffer from a lack of as much funding as is really required to do the games "all the way". For instance, what if RTG had been able to have a staff of 40 or 50 to work on DFC? I'm sure a lot of small issues we've seen could have been addressed, and likely in a shorter time frame. It likely would have been possible to have a full-time Unity specialist on staff, one who could ensure the game is as optimised as possible. Heck, it likely would have been possible to use the UnReal engine.

Given the level of funding available, I think RTG has done a great job, even going beyond what we should be able to expect. It's obvious to me that this is a group of people who truly love their work and are fully commited to DFC.

Hi there,

I also got this weird lens flare behavior and someone already posted a video of that:

My specs are: Core i7-860, Nvidia GTX 460, 8GB RAM, Win7 x64

I have the flashing eyes bug. I want to continue playing but it is very annoying. Would it help if you have access to someones PC where this occurs? I can provide remote access if it helps.

Also an option to turn off or down the "lense flare" would be good, it's a little over the top, should have an epilepsy warning for the cities.

I also have this off some reflective surfaces like the cops helmets, it gives me a bit of a headache.

I have had the lazer eyes as well, that can be blinding.

Let me know if I can provide assistance.

Glenn.

I am still having the same problems with eyes, and lens flares, and over-saturated blooms after installing patch 1.1.1. (i5 4670k/7950) In my opinion, it was a HUGE mistake to make the lens flare non-toggleable. First of all, lens flare is acceptable in movies where the camera perspective is static relative to the viewer. However, in a video game where YOU control the camera, all lens flare does is help remind you that you're behind the lens. This is somewhat immersion breaking and not everybody likes this. Secondly, the lens flare is very broken with huge boxes of light flashing wildly everywhere. I was really hoping for a more polished release and am somewhat disappointed with the technical sides of things. On the other hand, I am immensely enjoying the characters, story, setting and style of game so far, so props for that.

EDIT: Here is a video. View My Video (not sure how to embed, new here)

I have the same issue. Tracido's screenshots illustrate it very well.

Specs:

- Patch 1.1.1

- Club 3D Radeon R9 280X royalQueen graphics card

- Graphics driver 14.9.2 beta

- Intel Core i5 4670K CPU

- MSI H87-G41 PC Mate motherboard

- Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 GB DIMM DDR3-1600 memory

- Windows 8.1 64bit

- No overclocks

It would be nice to have a fix before the next Book is released.

Neverwinterx -  R9 290X vs R9 280X. It would appear that the Radeon R9 cards are an issue.

Pretty sure that issue has now been fixed (at least on AMD cards), and that the fix will be in patch 1.2

I do hope I can choose to keep the awesome lens flares and get instead an option to disable your ugly face because not everybody likes that either. ;)

Woah, I'm with Tina here.  Let's relax, it's right in the top priority for 1.2, here's a link http://redthreadgame...atch#entry49421 , and they already said they were working on it.

It's a long ways from being finished even (5books) as they got a lot of additional work on this project they never even expected, so to me patience here is worth it, these guys aren't a giant studio, they are doing excellent things with so few employed.  Just, had to toss that out there.

Allow me to rephrase that: I do hope I can choose to keep the awesome lens flares because "not everybody likes it" is not a good reason to remove something that a lot of people do like.

There are probably three types of lens flares. I think people are only objecting to the squares.

I think the choice of controller can make a difference to how you perceive the lens flares. A joypad limits the speed at which the camera can rotate and makes it harder to stop the camera in a position where a big flare is on screen. I haven't tried with a mouse but I can see that the effect could be more pronounced in that case.
