Since it appears that there are a few issues that need to be resolved with book one, has there been any official word on when we can expect a patch that will address the performance issues?

Happy birthday. ;)

There wasn't an official word, but the performance issues were acknowledged - to a degree - and tweets have confirmed that they're at least working on a patch.

Tho in RTG's defense, the last time they published a date, the game wasn't ready.  However, I too would like to see an estimate and a list of bugs being fixed.  I don't think the game is currently playable, but I could probably get through it if I had too, but it'd be a bad experience.

So, list of things being fixed, and a proposed date?

  1. * Linux black squares
  2. * Linux gamepad
  3. * Europolis optimization
  4. * Crash to desktops
  5. __________

fantastic!  what a great company RTG is!

Anyone try the Linux download from GOG?  is there a way to know it's been patched?  (version indicated is 1.0.0).  I'd hate to download the unpatched files.

5 absolutely needs to be the glare issues, as no options are allowing to turn it off, it's ruining dialog (constant eye flashing), atmosphere (constant boxes of this light refraction error), it's really not good.

I tried both 1.1 and 1.1.1 update, but crashing to desktop right after start was not resolved, still the same error:

Dreamfall Chapters.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module Dreamfall Chapters.exe at 001b:001a5735.
Read from location 00000000 caused an access violation.

Windows 7 SP1 32 bit, 4GB RAM

That sounds like an out of memory error. Try this

Open a command prompt as administrator (Start > Programs > Accessories > Right Click on Command Prompt > Run as administrator)
Write this and hit enter

bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072
After a reboot of the computer, try the game again.

The game crashes right as you launch it? Like it plays the intro movies, and then crashes? If you, you might want to check out this thread

http://redthreadgame...art/#entry46671

And see if that solution works for you

Yes, the symptoms are the same as in the post you linked:

1. 1st screen Red Thread
2. 2nd screen Kickstart, etc.
3. 3rd screen Dreamfall Chapters.
4. Black screen then error report.

I have checked the system fonts, but found nothing bad with them (no zero size fonts), also tried reset to default.

As I have read somewhere in the forums, only certain Unity versions cause those errors.

That didn't fix it then? Then I'm not sure. Make sure your GPU drivers are updated, and maybe try to check your DirectX install (https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=34429).

Do you maybe have an AMD graphics card?

If so, you can read this link:

http://redthreadgame...ge-6#entry49522

Unfortunately, there's no community solution for such a scenario. Either RTG can remove the necessity for 3GB switch by next patch (I requested it actually, feel free to request as well here), or you need an x64 bit system (windows/linux dual boot etc...)

I found a solution - it really was a "corrupt" font - not only one, but 4, no software found them, I just had to move fonts & try the game unless I found the bad ones. Now the game works ok.

The 3GB switch is not needed for the 32 bit OS.

@redfox, did you also try the fontfrenzy like DocDavid, and it didn't work?

Glad to hear you got it working again. :)

The 3GB switch is probably not a bad idea anyways for people running 32-bit operating systems, as Europolis (city hub) is pretty large and will, in many cases, require more memory usage than what the OS gives the application by default.

FontFrenzy keeps only original system fonts, and deletes all the others - so I do not recommed using it if you need the additional fonts.

Yes, I know. I wouldn't recommend it as the default solution either (as per my comment in DocDavid's thread). I just wanted to know if it was among the software that you used and didn't solve the issue, before resolving it by hand.
