This is amazing! I was pretty bummed out about the demise of the official competition and now coming to the forums seeing this coming together. :-)
While I don't have any musical talent, I'm looking forward to hearing what you gals and guys come up with!

Awsome songs on here already!

I really want to do something but it's hard without a computer, rec equipment, ideas and drive... :(

We'll see, I might be able to make something for the un-unofficial thingy :P

(No, two minus dosn't make plus in this case ;) :P )

Affirmative, I will stop doing this thing that I love and makes me feel happy and follow you to our next stop
on our depressing journey, what is your command human? How will I be tested now....?

Why does that make you sad?  (or do I misunderstand the emoticon?)

No but the bar is set high and makes me sad for my own submissions :P

Just listened to all the tracks, and they are all fantastic. Makes me feel that much closer to DFC and the community!

The only thing I hope is taken into consideration when the final album is put together is audio normalization. I found myself adjusting the volume after pretty much every track which is.. less than ideal. I am in no way insulting the actual musical content, it's just a thought and suggestion I have.

So, I woke up 7:30 full of inspiration, melodies wanting to get out of my head. Had to get up and make some music! Worked for 7 hours straight and this is the result. Another one for DFCArcadia  :)

Me too, awesome work everyone! Really surprised by the quality. Everything is great, sounds professional and I'm sure would fit the game somewhere. Now I really feel that it's such a shame these couldn't be included with the game :(

Volume is very different between tracks, yeah.

While they won't be in the game in an official capacity, we do have confirmation that RTG will be making a folder of some sort where we can drop in our own music that will then play in game. So you will be able to Mod these tracks in yourself, if you so choose.

As far as volume equalization, I'll ponder that and see what we can do.

Yeah but not as cool as if they had selected them to use as the main tracks for different things. :) Really appreciate the backup-option though, don't get me wrong.

I guess the beset results would come if each entrant applied some compression and normalization on their end, before finalizing the file. But there may be factors I don't know about, I'm just dabbling in this. :P

Using a ReplayGain algorithm and adjusting the sound accordingly for the compilation download is probably the best bet. Personally I don't really like compression too much.

Partial to compression myself, but i live in a live, acoustic and choral kind of world. Also, not all that well versed in computerized audio management.

Hmm... I've listened to all of the tracks currently posted. IMHO dynamic range compression probably won't help any of the current entries. Also, I think the album should leave the question of dynamic range to the author.

Normalization, I think, could be a benefit though. There are any number of tools available that could perform the normalization individually or in a batch.

On the other hand, if the piece is meant to be quiet, why change it?

I'll think about this too.

Feel free to use any or all of the tracks, even the ones that are labeled bonus. Only labeled because of the limitations of submissions. Though 'The Fist of Lucifer' and 'Airchip' are the main submissions as the rules are now.

Hi, gang.

There is just a little more than two weeks left in the competition.  There is some amazing music up on the cloud already, so I can't wait to see what is still hanging out in the shadows.  As of this posting there are an awesome 25 tracks in the SoundCloud group.  According to the tags, there should be 23 entries to the competition.  I cannot speak for actual submissions since those go to agirlnamedbob, but I am excited!

Some statistics:

25 Tracks

23 Submissions

9 #DFCArcadia

9 #DFCStark

5 #DFCMisc

2 #DFCBonusTrack

Total Track Time: 93:29 (if I counted right)

Average Track Time 3:44

21 Members

12 Artists

2 Moderators (go me!)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. ostubash, great work!
