There’s nothing magical or impossible about big boats or blue body paint

So, you are saying that if after walking through back alley you'll find yourself in a medieval city with a harbour full of sail ships and blue people on the streets you wouldn't be surprised?

No; I'm saying I wouldn't assume that it meant a world that runs on magic, rather than just an old-timey city. Because there's little sign that it’s anything other than a medieval city. Time travel, maybe, but why would you think magic? Just because people were superstitious and believed in it back then?

 

Now, the dream in the prologue chapter… if we saw anything like that in Arcadia, I’d totally buy that it’s an impossible land of magic. But we didn’t, or else I completely missed it.
