DFC Hangs on Ubuntu 16.04 (i915 graphics card)

In other Unity 5 games I've found adding the -force-opengl command line parameter can help with a lot of issues when using the open source drivers.

I recently changed my machine to a lenovo t460s with integrated i915 graphics and it seems DFC doesn't like that :(

When I start it, it shows the intro (screens: RTG, Norsk filminstitut, Gracious support, Zoe, Kian and the balance) and then the screen gets blank and nothing happens. I have the Steam version.

 

The Player.log and tail -n 1000 strace.txt are attached. When I run DFC with ltrace, the process gets killed before showing the intro.

Seems it's doing a lot of back-and-forth with some locks, any chance it could be live-locking?

 

Btw, this is the backtrace of the hanged process. If you send me the symbols I can generate the backtrace again with function names. Or I can send you a dump so you can check it out locally, let me know.

That may be dangerous since OP has not responded.  And even if the workaround lets people play, there is still a bug to be fixed here (though almost certainly in Unity rather than in the game code per se).
