Computer: "Here, I finished downloading Dreamfall Chapters Book 5 for you last night, I know you've waited ten years for all the secrets and answers contained therein so feel free to start playing and enjoy!"
Me: "Oh thank you computer! Thank you thank you thank you!!"
Computer: "Just kidding, installing important windows updates."

Next up: The sequel, "Here, Let Me Overheat Halfway through the First Puzzle Coz You Left Me Turned On All Night."

Is now a bad time to mention that the computer with the worst overheating issues I've ever owned was a Mac? ... >>;

I hate that, though. Been there. Hope you're able to enjoy it after updates. ;)

My way: stick to Windows 7 and let it update only when I allow. Which I do monthly by hand. Disabling updates to Windows 10 each time. It works, and once in a month it's not that bothersome.

I've only updated my win 7 when a program I needed asked my a specific version. Otherwise updates are disabled ;)

Uh.

I have to say, I find it a bit surprising that there are still people that don't know that Microsft *always* releases updates on the second tuesday of every month. I mean, it's not like they started doing that last week, they've been doing that for literally more than a decade. So it's pretty easy to plan for it.

Also, in Windows 10 there's a setting called "active hours" that lets you set a 12 hour period where it won't even look for updates.

I have a horrible sense of time. Most of the time I have to check the calendar several times in a day to make sure what day of the week it is. So nope, never noticed that Microsoft updates on a schedule. Good to know though. Also, I wanted to stay with Windows 7, but my computer upgraded to Windows 10 on its own. Erased 2 hours of unsaved gameplay in GalCiv 2 while it was at it too.

And my laptop just crashed from overheating, and now the game is updating... Is it just not meant to be???

As a windows user a windows 10 user at that Its a good idea to check if your hardware actually can run the game, because cranking up all the setting and expecting a internal graphic card to handle it well without overheating is just wishful thinking.

A graphics card should never overheat unless you've overclocked it or otherwise fiddled with. It should increase cooling and decrease performance until it's out of danger. I consider that faulty hardware/drivers.
