Hey all!

I would love to know if Zoe will be able to flirt with someone from Marcuria or someone else from Stark?... I don't mean Reza or the doc..

I hope, that someone of RTG Team could give us a Little hope! :-)

kind regards <3

There are already a few flirtation options in the game for Zoe, as you alluded to.

However, I don't expect RTG to say much, if anything, official about this until after the part of the game with any content along those lines has been released. Mostly for spoiler reasons. And also for "they're really busy right now" reasons.

Speaking of, this may need to be moved to the spoiler subforum...

Well, if this were a Bioware game there would be loads of options, and pretty much for all tastes.

(Even if I don't remember MaleShep with Male NPC romance options... Maybe Kaidan? I read somewhere that that was an option initially but EA got Bioware to drop it.)

But it isn't, so...

But if there are, could we please not have stupid scenes in showers or hot tubs where everybody is wearing underwear? Not that we need to see anything, but underwear in those scenes is just silly. And yeah, I'm aware that Ragnar has a thing for characters in underware  ;)

Male shep got some gay romance (Kaidan and Cortez) options in ME3, but the Kaidan romance was cut from ME1.  I saw a particularly silly argument where someone theorized that the Kaidan romance was cut because Mark Meer was homophobic, on the basis that he was from Edmonton and Alberta is a redneck province.  Which was absurd not only on the basis that assuming somebody's politics based on their city of origin is dumb, but also because it's extremely unlikely that Bioware would alter their creative plans to suit Mark Meer.  I seriously doubt anybody (aside from Meer's friends and family, perhaps) were buying Mass Effect for his voice acting.

But TLJ games haven't been big on romance in the past beyond a little flirting.  But who knows?  Maybe Queenie will be a romance option.

I think it's also important to remember that DFC is a different game than some of these other games. It's not an RPG. And it's certainly not a dating sim (though, you know...I mean...I'd play a dating sim set in this universe...).

The introduction of the C&C mechanic makes it potentially more likely that there may be romance, and choices in who to romance, but I'm personally not expecting it to be a huge focus in the game.

Also moving this to the spoiler area now just because I think it's going to be hard to discuss the specifics without getting spoiler-y.

As Erika pointed out, an adventure game is different than an RPG in that the characters are predefined and worked out. There is obviously some wiggle room, but all the choices have to be consistent with the characters personalities and traits. We haven't had any hints ever that Zoë is bi, so I would not expect to see that introduced now.

There's a much greater chance of Kian turning out gay, I'd say. We haven't seen him romance anyone (and no, that scene with April doesn't count. He wasn't trying to chat her up, no matter what it sounded like).

Change that to "he wasn't necessarily trying to chat her up" and we're in agreement. ;) I still like the idea of Kian and April, though I will admit that the scene in question struck me as much more flirtatious on my first playthrough than on my most recent one.

As far as Zoe's sexuality, I think it's pretty clear she's straight. As you said, no indications, and the picture that RTG put out that caused some issues on Facebook had Zoe wearing a shirt that said something like "I'm Proud Of My/Support My Gay Friends." And I believe the commentary that went with it said something about Zoe being an ally, which would imply she's straight.

I would be totally cool with Kian being queer in some fashion. Be it gay, bi, or trans* (Lady Alvane theories!) We've really gotten little in terms of his romantic life. Though I'm not sure who a potential love interest would be for him in this case...

But yeah, I don't expect romance to play a role in chapters the way it would in a Bioware RPG. Though there may be more/less romance at your preference, depending on your choices. Like flirting with Roman and/or Sully is completely optional.

I wouldn't say Zoë flirts with Sully, really. I'd say he flirts with her and she doesn't call him out on it. But that may be splitting hairs?

At any rate romance hasn't really been a feature of any of the games in the series. It's there in the background like for most people, but it hasn't been the focus of the story. Which is why I wouldn't expect there to be a love interest for Kian at all really, and that if he's gay it'd rather be reviled by some side remark that might almost sail you by (Like "That man is very handsome. He reminds me of my first bunkmate, back in Azadir").

I'd say depending on your conversation options you can be more or less flirtatious with Sully, but yeah. Splitting hairs.

Re: Kian. Fair point. That may be better. I'm not opposed to romantic subplots but a reveal like that would be really refreshing.

And then the serious "shipping" can be handled with the inevitable fan fiction. ;)

I think Zoe's conversation with Sully plays well; he does flirt a little and she does encourage him. She would have no reason to call him out unless the flirting were unwelcome. Some older men will flirt with women, not out of sexual interest but to flatter and to offer a little attention. They seem to enjoy imparting a little "feel good about yourself" to the woman.

Yes, it would be interesting if Kian were something other than straight. My impression is that there have been changes to his character between DF and Chapters. In Dreamfall I thought his interest in April was from the novelty (for him) of meeting a woman with such strong convictions and so outspoken. I also picked up the suggestion that he was involved with one of the Six..

To be fair, I could totally see Kian saying something like that even if he were straight, in his completely innocent and serious way. Then wondering how all those rumours got started. :D

For sure. He's also come from in a society where the most powerful positions are held by women, and so he acts deferentially towards April partly because he was raised to have proper manners, heh.

IIRC Zoë wrote about Sully in her Diary. Something about how she really liked Sully, but she wouldn't be with him because he is Reza's friend.

As I played the game I felt like she was really into Sully. Maybe when (if) she finds out Reza isn't Reza... Sully will have a chance :)

I got the distinct impression that she really liked Sully, but that it was only as a friend and that there was no other potential there. That even if she was single she wouldn't want to date him.

I don't think he was surprised that she was speaking out as a woman. The Azadi are a matriarchal society. He specifically humbles himself in their discussion and shows extra respect towards her because she is a woman. I always interpreted his reaction to her strong opinions as being a result of not expecting someone to speak so forcefully against his mission and the Azadi. Particularly a human woman, who he would naturally be inclined to give more weight to the words of.

Re: Sully - I think it's one of those interactions that you can really read into a variety of ways depending on the options you chose and your personal projections / feelings towards the characters.

I agree and I also perceived Sully as a bit of a father figure. I think many younger men with all those male hormones, don't understand that a woman can show interest without it having to be sexual. I think the Viagra commercials foster a sexual interpretation to all women's actions. If a woman is seen doing something that seems a little crazy but fun, and they do not get hard, then there is something wrong with them - they need to take Viagera especially if they don't have an erection approaching 4 hours.

I definitely didn't get a father-figure vibe off of Zoe's interaction with Sully, but I think that further outlines the point that it's really set up in such a way to allow for multiple interpretations.

To me, it read more as "good friend, someone who I could maybe develop feelings for in a different situation, but situation being what it is, staying good friends and I want him to be happy."

As far as the whole interest doesn't have to be sexual, I do agree that is a problem, but I don't think it's exclusive to younger men. I've actually had that problem more with older guys.

But yeah, in this specific instance, I feel like Zoe and Sully's interaction is definitely playful. He's definitely flirting, she's either playing along / not calling him out on it or taking it and running with it, depending on the conversation options and your own views. It may become clearer later exactly what Zoe thinks of the whole thing. It may adjust based on choices. Or it may be left up to the player's interpretation.
