We have now added the possibility for testing beta versions of Dreamfall: Chapters through Steam.

This is only available for players that have the game in their Steam library.

More information about how to enable beta versions and general guidelines with regards to feedback can be found in this forum.

Thanks Morten. I think fan player feedback will help RTG debug the game considerably.

Unfortunately, not being a Steam user, I won't be able to participate.

I'll probably be able to find out myself shortly (by boooting in my Linux partition) but just to clarify is the beta participation refering to every OS that the game is available for (ie windows, Linux and MacOS)?

Also, thank you for enabling this option.

I hope you get useful feedback out of this process.

I must admit, that this caused me to seriously consider getting the game on steam...

Alas, RTG are like a wife, making you abandon all ideology :P*

I've signed up. I'm going to save my flag file then start from the beginning again.

What i've done is, disable steam cloud sync. Then just rar/zip the whole Red Thread Games dir under %appdata%, then cleared it out for a fresh run. So I just have a few archives with each previous play though in it.

I started replaying with new beta today, I'll continue tomorrow:-) I went nuts and turned on all switches for best graphics. Well, at least until I reach Europolis I can enjoy the game with highest visual settings. Great idea with beta testing, thank you RTG.

I did beta testing for Gabriel Knight & Moebius and although it was an informative and interesting experience, I don't think I'll be participating in this beta. Thanks for opening it up to us though :)

What is the beta version?  How do we know we are in beta?  Steam downloaded v1.1.3 today, but do not see that a patch that version was released yet.  I'm opt out of beta, so Steam messed up?

Well, if you're running 1.1.3 then 1 or 2 things happened:

  1. RTG has released 1.1.3 to production
  2. 1.1.3 has leaked into production

As far as any of us backers know, 1.1.3 is supposed to be available only to people who opt in to the Steam Beta.

I have the special edition on Steam, so not sure if that makes a difference or not.

I'm not a Steam user (except for Portal) so I'm no expert, but it's hard to imagine why that would make a difference.

It doesn't.

No, backers got a key for the regular edition. But they got all the extras included in the special edition on Humble.

So then was 1.1.3 released because I did not opt for beta in steam.

A patch was released. We're not sure if it was purposefully released or not yet as we haven't gotten any official word that I know of.
