Hi Everyone,

First, I have read the FAQ about the performance updates v. 1.1 and 1.1.1.

How can I check to make sure Steam has downloaded these to my game?

I understand they are meant to fix performance issues, so if steam has not

downloaded them, they may be the answer.

Presently I am using the game on the lowest graphics setting. My computer is an HP G72 Notebook PC.

It has 4 gb of Ram and a 64-bit operating system running on Windows 7.

The processor is Intel® Core™ i3 CPU.

As far as I can see, this should be sufficient for playing the game.

When I open up task manager to see how much memory is being used, Dreamfall is using anywhere

from 800,000 to over 1 million. I have never seen a program use so much memory. It's causing my

whole computer to run slowly. Dreamfall also runs slowly. It's very choppy and the audio is missing

in a couple of places as well.

Also, there are times where I am unable to click things. Right now, I'm at the second dreamer and

unable to click the second lamp twice (which I know I need to do to get further in the game).

Is there any fix? I am really anxious to play the game, but can't seem to get it running

at a decent enough speed where I can easily and smoothly play it.

Thank you,

Rachael

I don't think that's a bug.

When you go into your Steam library, you should be able to see whether or not the game has any pending updates. If it has pending updates, then you need to apply the patch. If it doesn't have pending updates, then you should have the most recent patch installed. Also, if you downloaded the game after Halloween, you should definitely have the most up to date version.

I'd say checking to make sure that patch is updated would be the first step.

From what I can tell, you should meet min spec. What settings are you running the game on? What is your graphics card? Any additional information there will be helpful with trouble shooting. You may need to toggle your settings down and also make sure you aren't running any other programs in the background while playing.

The problem is not the ram usage, it is entirely normal for the game to use that amount of memory. In fact, it uses a lot more than that on higher settings. But what GPU do you have and specifically what processor model do you have?

It doesn't look like the game has any pending updates though I'm not quite sure where to look.
What I see in list view under status is "ready to play" and if I go into properties there's
no downloadable content and updates are set to automatic. I also just installed the game
last night so it seems like it most likely is up to date.

Game settings:

Visual quality: low
Resolution: 1600 x 900
Full Screen
Anti-Aliasing Medium
SSAO Off
Noise/Grain off
Motion Blur 0%
Gamma 50%
Depth of Field off
Shadow Distance 1m

For audio everything is at 100%

Also using offline mode (not sure if that effects game performance or not)

Graphics card:

Intel® HD Graphics
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel® HD Graphics (Core i3)

Processor:
Intel® Core™ i3 CPU.

I have also tried to shut down all other programs and processes while playing.

from 800,000 to over 1 million.

800 to 1million what  ? lol thats quite a range in numbers :)
DFC will use 2-3gig of ram usually.

The minimum gfx card requirement is a HD 4000, if you have less than that expect issues.
An i3 should be just about good enough but they have never made good gaming cpus. They are really dual cores that can handle 4 threads (at least last I checked).

Keep the AA off, that should help.

If your using steam I wouldnt worry about the patch lvl, as long as you have updates enabled.

800,000 to 1millionK in memory. When you go to task manager and look under processes.

I turned AA off and updates are enabled.

Also closed every other program and set priority level of DFC to high.

Still slow. =/

800,000 to 1millionK in memory. When you go to task manager and look under processes.

Which is only around 1 gig, which is nothing.

you need to find out what version of the intel HD gfx chipset you have. Running dxiag.exe might help if you click on the display tab.

I'm not quite sure what information you are looking for, so I'll post it all.
I have done that. Here's all the information that comes up:

Name: Intel® HD Graphics
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip Type: Interl® HD Graphics (Core i3)
DAC Type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 1696 MB
Current Display Mode: 1600 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor

Also, I don't know if this may help, but:

The processor says M 370 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), -2.4GHz

And (don't know if DFC uses it) DirectX Verision is 11.

Saying Intel HD isnt enough information. Is it an Intel HD 3000 ? and intel HD 4000 ? or some other type ? there must be 4 years worth of gfx chips called Intel HD.

The min spec for the game is an Intel HD 4000, anything less than that, and its not supported.

Okay, I found:

Intel® 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1-3B42

another one the same under that but POrt 3-3B46

AND
Intel® 5 Series/3400 series Chipset Family SMBus Controller=3B30

Soo...based on what you said...is there some way to update my graphics card? Looks like that's the problem.

so off the top of my head I would say thats under the minimum spec. Clearly the 3000 series came before the 4000 series.

Unless someone else knows better, I dont take much notice of intel integrated chipsets.

The minimum spec clearly states: 'Intel HD Graphics 4000'

The i3-370m is the first generation of i3 that was launched in 2010. It's integrated graphics has benchmark numbers that are roughly 1/4 of the Intel HD4000.

I'm running it with an Intel 3000 and, though it's not exactly fluid, I am able to play the game decently enough

Also take into account that mobile i3 CPUs are much less powerful than desktop i3. You need mobile i5 to match desktop i3, according to PassMark CPU benchmarks.

I have desktop PC with i3 2120 and I am able to run DFC on High settings. But I have also 8GB RAM and AMD HD7750 graphics (it can be considered a middle level GPU). Europolis is pretty smooth with just some stutters here and there. Only Mira's place is noticeably slowed down for some unknown reason. Maybe it has some special lighting effects or something like that.

Mine is just a laptop and has 4gb RAM. So, if there's no way to upgrade the graphics card, I guess I looking at a new laptop (or at least borrowing someone's to play).

Does anyone know if it can be upgraded in an Hp Pavilian g72 laptop or is it integrated into the motherboard?

Also, I somehow got to where you have to escape the jail, but can't click on the pillow to take it -_-

I looked at all the specs. Do you all think this laptop would work?

http://store.hp.com/..._gpa=pla&ci_kw=

OR

http://store.hp.com/...catalogId=10051

To be honest, the first one is more aesthetically pleasing (I love black and red and the backlights) but the second might run the game better.

Opinions?

Both of the laptops you linked to should be sufficient for running the game.

The second one is a bit more powerful than the first one, hence the bigger price tag.

I'm sorry you're having trouble playing the game, but you should find that you'll have a good experience with similar laptops to those you linked. :)
